The Papua New Guinea Hunters rugby league team suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 14-8 away to the Easts Tigers.

The Hunters conceded the first try of the match before Thompson Teteh collected a cross-field kick from Roger Laka to level scores at 4-4 just before halftime.

The home side crossed to regain the lead shortly after the break and stretched their advantage to 12-4 with a penalty.

Ase Boas got on the end of a grubber from Roger Laka to cut the deficit to four points but Easts converted another penalty six minutes from time and held out to claim their second win.

The Hunters drop to third overall in the Queensland Cup standings and are one of nine teams on four points after three rounds.
