Samoa gives cyclone relief funds to Vanuatu, Tuvalu

The Samoa Government is giving financial assistance to Tuvalu and Vanuatu to help relief efforts after Cyclone Pam.

Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi said during his weekly interview session with Radio 2AP that 20,000 US dollars will be given for Tuvalu.

In addition the Samoa Government patrol vessel Nafanua is being dispatched to Tuvalu to help with the transport of relief supplies.

The Samoa Government has also approved 60,000 US dollars for Vanuatu which suffered the brunt of the category five Pam.

Next Monday, a private fundraiser will have musicians, poets and writers sharing their talents in an open mic evening to benefit Vanuatu.

Organizers say proceeds will be given to the Vanuatu Red Cross to help with relief efforts.
