Fiji employment agreement to grow economy

8:24 pm on 9 April 2015

The Fiji government says it intends to fulfill the industrial relations agreement it signed at the International Labour Organisation, as it will push economic growth for the country.

At the ILO in Geneva in March, the government, the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation and the Fiji Trades Union Council signed a tripartite agreement in a bid to ensure smoother employment relations.

That included to reinstate union check-offs, but the Public Services Association has raised concern that no date has been set for when it would come into effect.

The Fiji Sun reports the Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as saying the agreement was entered into in good faith.

He says for economic growth, all the processes must be followed.

He says Fiji must think as a country and move away from an antagonist approach when dealing with employment relations.
