The Multinational Observer Group which observed Fiji's elections last year has released its final report.

FBC news reports the Australian-led group did not deviate from its preliminary findings which found the election was credible and broadly represented the will of the Fijian voters.

The broadcaster reports the group concluded conditions were in place for Fijians to vote freely despite compressed timeframes, a complex voting system and some restrictions in the electoral environment.

The observers found civil society participation was unduly restricted because of provisions in the Electoral Decree.

It found the media made good efforts to cover the election but restrictions including harsh penalties limited its ability to examine the claims of candidates and parties.
