24 sentenced over Tonga student violence

4:47 am on 17 April 2015

Tonga's Supreme Court has jailed most of the 24 students and former students from Tupou College involved in violence nearly two years ago.

The group had attacked and ransacked a home in Tofoa belonging to a teacher at Tonga High School and where students from that school were living.

Three of the group, including one now 22 years of age, have been sent to prison for four and a half years, with part of that suspended.

Radio Tonga reports that another 18 have been jailed but with the terms suspended, while three have been fined.
