Sport: Fiji cricketers earn work scholarships to Australia

11:52 am on 30 April 2015

Fiji cricket internationals Marica Vua and Manase Ravula have been selected by the Australian Government to attend a three-month education and work experience program later this year.

The duo have been awarded an all expenses paid scholarship worth in excess of 15,000 Fijian dollars each, as part of the Australian Sports Commission's Pacific Sports partnership program.

Manase Ravula from Lakeba will be based in Sydney with Cricket New South Wales and take up rotating positions in local councils and Governments, Cricket NSW head office as well as undertaking a course in critical and strategic problem solving.

Marica Vua from Galoa village, Serua in Viti Levu will be based in Melbourne with Cricket Victoria undertaking a similar rotation and studies.

The scholarship is a double edged sword for Ravula as it rules him out of the World Cricket League Division 6 event in London in September, where Fiji will come up against Guernsey, Cayman Islands, Vanuatu, Suriname, Saudi Arabia and another team from Europe.
