Truck ushers in new era in Tongan broadcasting

Tonga's first and largest broadcaster has welcomed what it calls a new era in the industry with the arrival of a new broadcasting truck.

The 5-tonne fully equipped truck was given to the Tonga Broadcasting Commission as part of a grass roots grant from Japan and was put into operation for the first time last month.

Chief Engineer Solomone Finau says the truck will enhance the quality of outside broadcasts and make them simpler.

"Now it's all in one in the truck and it helps us to give us a godo signal back to the studio. It all gets stored in the truck so no need to go install different equipment at the time. So what they do is they just carry and plug in their microphones in the truck outside, both TV and radio, then they go."

The truck is being prepared to broadcast the Coronation event in July as well as interscholastic competitions.
