Pohnpei's Senator Peter Christian is the new President of the Federated States of Micronesia and Kosrae Senator Yosiwo George is the country's new Vice President.
The Marianas Variety reported that the two were elected by the 19th Congress yesterday.
The President Christian and Vice President George replace Emanuel Mori of Chuuk and Alik Alik of Kosrae both of whom served two terms in office and were first elected in 2007.
The local paper also reports that Chuuk Senator Wesley Simina was elected as the new speaker and Pohnpei Senator Berney Martin as the new vice speaker.
