International direct flights from Fiji to the Tongan island of Vava'u are expected to start in November, as well as direct flights from Samoa to Tongatapu.

Matangi Tonga reports the Minister of Infrastructure, 'Etuate Lavulavu, has confirmed the new services after holding talks with Fiji Airways officials in Nadi last week.
The talks occurred as the Tongan Prime Minister, 'Akilisi Pohiva, visited Fiji and met with his counterpart Frank Bainimarama.
The flights will open up international access to Vava'u from Asia and Australasia via Nadi.
