A 52-year-old New Zealand man has drowned in Samoa.

He died after a kayak he was in has capsized off the Le Uaina resort in the village of Faleapuna on the eastern side of Upolu island.

The police have named the deceased as Wayne William Wilson.

The police spokesman, Superintendent Su'a Muliaga Tiumalu, said Mr Wilson and his family had arrived last weekend to spend a holiday in Samoa.

The family has requested a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

Samoan rugby fans are accusing Air New Zealand of price gouging.
