Papua New Guinea's Police Commissioner has announced major changes to the police force, saying it's ill-disciplined and unable to perform at present.
Gari Baki says PNG will be under the microscope over the next three years with major events like APEC on the horizon.
He says he will maintain zero tolerance of police brutality and corrupt and lazy officers will have no place in the force.
He says he will have no hesitation in sacking up to half the force to deal with abusive and corrupt behaviour.
The police chief has also announced a restructuring of the force with a beefing up of policing in the capital Port Moresby, which will now have a dedicated command.
He says he wants to bring policing to the people and strengthen the force from its present 6,000 to 10,000 by 2018.
