Ms Pihei was the minister of community development in the outgoing government.

Her seat in the autonomous Papua New Guinea region has been won by Isabel Peta with Lillian Tinga Ahai second.

The vote count is yet to be completed in the other two reserved women's seats.

Meanwhile the incumbent president, John Momis, has established a huge lead over the rest of the field with nearly 49,000 votes, more than 32,000 than the candidate in second place, Ishmael Toroama.

So far 35 of the 40 seats have been declared.
