Sport: Samoa appoint interim sevens coaches

The Samoa Rugby Union has appointed Fata'ali'i Milovale Moke as interim coach of the Manu Sevens team for next month's Pacific Games.

He will be assisted by Fa'aofo Junior Leota.

The pair replace Fuimaono Titimaea Tafua and Galumalemana Rudolf Moors, whose contracts were not renewed earlier this year.

SRU interim Chief Executive Faleomavaega Vincent Fepulea'i says the interim appointments allow them time to find the right candidates to take up positions permanently, over the next two weeks.

He says 29 applicants have applied for the vacancy, with candidates from Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji, and Europe.

"I can tell you the quality of candidates who have applied are top notch and there are well-respected coaches from around the world."

Faleomavaega says their focus now is on supporting the team at the Pacific Games, and looking ahead to what we need to do to qualify for next year's Olympics.
