Sport: PNG cricketers facing uphill battle

Papua New Guinea face an uphill battle to avoid defeat with two days remaining in their Intercontinental Cup cricket match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

The Barramundi's were quickly dismissed for 128 early on day two, giving up a 78 run first innings lead to the home side.

Mahura Dai top-scored for PNG with 26 while Timm van der Gugten was the chief destroyer, claiming 6 for 29 from seventeen overs.

The Dutch then rallied from 110 for 7 to post 223 in their second turn at bat, setting PNG a daunting target of 305 runs for victory.

Willie Gavera and John Reva shared seven wickets.

At stumps, the visitors are delicately poised on 66 for 2, with Lega Siaka out for 49 from 37 balls.
