Vanuatu hoping for more seasonal work in Australia

Vanuatu has welcomed Australia's pledge to increase the numbers of seasonal workers accepted in Australia, in the wake of Cyclone Pam.

However, the Commissioner of Labour, Lionel Kaluat, says he looks forward to seeing the new agreement become a reality.

The Australian Government is expanding the seasonal worker programme for Pacific workers from countries such as Vanuatu and Solomon Islands but hasn't responded to requests for further information.

Mr Kaluat says he is hoping as well as farm workers that hospitality workers will be welcomed, which will be especially appreciated after the cyclone left many without work.
