The just-installed Sato Kilman Government appointed Marcellino Pipite as speaker after coming into power, who promptly challenged last week's move by the opposition.

The opposition members together with the ousted Prime Minister Jo Natuman, filed a petition at the Supreme Court, which has been opposed by Mr Pipite.

Our correspondent reports Mr Pipite did not have his submission prepared and has been given until noon today to present it to the court.

The opposition group is understood to have the backing of 23 MPs in the 52 seat parliament.
