Michael Malabag told the Post Courier staff concerns have not been adequately dealt with by hospital administrators and he says he hopes to have a new board in place later this week to sort out workers' issues.

The chief executive of the Eastern Highlands Health Authority says 41 have walked off the job, including one doctor.

Lillian Siwi says their grievances stem from years of bad management which her administration is now trying to address.

"So we have got the hospital managers with us and we are going to go from one section to another so that we can actually do what we have to do for the different sections so that we comply to the national health standard to get the hospital fit. And then we move out to the facilities in the districts."
