Twelve fisheries in Fiji are to be declared marine protected areas at the end of this year.
The Department of Fisheries has confirmed the fisheries have been identified and will be gazetted in December.
Altogether Fiji has 466 marine protected areas which have been established to ensure sustainability.
The government works with the Fiji Navy and police to safeguard the areas.
