American Samoa faces reduced budget

The American Samoa Government is cutting its budget for the coming year.

It has submitted a budget of just under $US418 million dollars to the Fono for approval.

It is a cut of $US6.6 million or 2 percent from the current budget with the government expecting lower revenues.

Federal grants meanwhile have gone up by 5 percent and covers more than a quarter of the budget.

The new fiscal year begins on October 1st and the budget plan is the main piece of legislature being reviewed by the Fono in the current session.
