Sport: Fiji Pearls urged to refocus

12:14 pm on 10 August 2015

Fiji netball coach Kate Carpenter admits it's disappointing to already be out of contention at the World Cup but says her players have no choice but to refocus and try and finish as strongly as possible.

The Pearls suffered opening defeats to Wales and Uganda and round out the pool phase today against Zambia.

Kate Carpenter says it's been a challenge adapting to different venues and umpires and says the team needs to show more consistency in their final matches.

"What presented to us as a real opportunity to go through to the top eight and now that opportunity is gone and so we will finish the tournament not having played one of the top teams. [The goal now] is just to refocus because we want to be the best of the 9-16 group. First of all [we need] to get through our pool match and to be placed third in our pool is really important because we get the easier cross-overs with pool C".

Kate Carpenter watched both of Zambia's opening pool matches and says she expects them to be

strong on the ball and to try and control possession.
