Police in Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, are looking for an officer who allegedly took money from expatriates as "fines" and never returned.

Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa says the Hohola-based constable went missing two months ago after stopping two Chinese expatriates and taking 700 US dollars.

The newspaper, The National, reports the constable never returned to work after the incident.

Mr Bawa has urged him to return so an internal investigation can be conducted.
