The Governor of Papua New Guinea's Western province, Ati Wobiro, and two others are to stand trial in the National Court on fraud-related charges

The newspaper The National reports that the charges relate to alleged fraud of US$ 2.8 million belonging to the Fly River provincial government.

The Waigani committal court Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said the court found that there was ample evidence against the Governor and his co-accused.

Mr Wobiro is one of several MPs in the current term of parliament to be referred to the courts or a leadership tribunal to answer allegations relating to misuse of public funds.
