The visitors opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a try from Sean Salave'a but the Pukpuks responded with four of their own to lead 22-14 at halftime.

A penalty closed the gap to five points shortly after the break but PNG skipper Tisa Kautu and Jacky Marcus crossed again to ensure victory.

PNG is unbeaten after two rounds while Tahiti thrashed Solomon Islands 36-12 for their first win, to maintain a glimmer of hope ahead of Saturday's final round of games.
