American Samoa teachers told to raise the bar

3:54 pm on 27 August 2015

Teachers in American Samoa have been told bluntly they will need to raise the bar this year.

Public schools officially open the new school year tomorrow and the Education Director Vaitinasa Dr. Salu Hunkin-Finau says improved teacher performance will be reflected in higher student achievement.

She told a teachers' general assembly that raising the bar involved everyone working smarter in order to get better results this year and into the future.

Vaitinasa says the Department is confident such goals can be reached, through greater transparency, connectivity and collaboration, among both teachers and students.

She says this time next year the Department will report back to the community on how well it has met the higher standards being set.
