Sport: James Segeyaro in line to face PNG Kumuls

11:56 am on 9 September 2015

Penrith Panthers hooker James Segeyaro has been named in the Australian Prime Minister's XIII train-on squad to face his birth country Papua New Guinea at the end of the month.

The 24 year old made his debut for the Kumuls in the same fixture four years ago.

Segeyaro was named the NRL's Dally M Hooker of the Year in 2014.

He missed out on representing PNG at the 2013 World Cup through injury.

Among the other players named in the PM's 13 train-on squad are Kangaroos internationals Daly Cherry-Evans, Josh Papalii and Aaron Woods, along with Fiji Bati rep Reagan Campbell-Gillard.

Penrith coach Ivan Cleary has taken charge of the team and says the game in Port Moresby will be an important match for the players who are ultimately selected, and a stepping stone for some ahead of the 2017 World Cup.
