The looming closure of a major hotel and casino in CNMI has claimed more jobs.

The Tinian mayor's office has laid off more than 40 of its employees due to the expected closure of Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino at the end of this month.

The Tinian Mayor Joey San Nicolas says he had to inform the employees the island municipality no longer has the money to pay them.

They worked their last day last Friday.

The mayor says taxes and fees collected from the casino paid for community services.
