Fiji police chief reads riot act to new recruits

Fiji's Police Commissioner has issued a stern warning to 109 new police recruits saying he will not tolerate any misconduct and improper application of police processes.

FBC reports Major General Ben Groenewald as saying he was taking steps to reduce the number of civil actions against the police.

He was speaking yesterday to the recruits at the opening of a basic recruit course at the Fiji Police Academy in Suva.

Some police officers from the regular force and special constabulary will be undergoing the four-month basic recruits' course for the first time.
