A rat infestation has forced the Customs Office on American Samoa's main dock to close.

The environmental division of the Department of Health ordered the office close because the building was deemed an unhealthy environment for employees.

The Chief of Customs, Moetului Sipili Fuiava, says he fully supports the action, which has sped up plans for the office's remodelling.

The Customs office has moved to a temporary facility.

Rat infestations have forced other government buildings in Pago Pago to close in recent months, including the Executive Office Building and the Jean P Haydon Museum.
