Papua New Guinea's former police commissioner, Geoffrey Vaki, has been arrested after he failed to turn up to court this week.
Our correspondent in Port Moresby, Todagia Kelola, says Mr Vaki was supposed to appear in court on charges of obstruction of justice.
The charge relates to Mr Vaki's role as then-police commissioner when he allegedly obstructed fraud squad members from enforcing an arrest warrant against the prime minister, Pete O'Neill, last year.
But Mr Kelola says Mr Vaki was supposed to appear in court this week, but never showed.
"The former police commissioner was not in court to answer these charges, so he issued a bench warrant in which the police acted on it and arrested Mr Vaki and took him to Boroko police station where they charged him with contempt of court."
Geoffrey Vaki was in July convicted on separate charges relating to the arrest warrant, and was sentenced to three years in jail with hard labour.
However, he is currently on bail as he is appealing that conviction.
