Tonga may get green light on China squash exports

Officials from China are in Tonga assessing whether Tongan squash exporters can get the green light to enter the Chinese market.

A delegation from China's Quarantine department is in Nuku'alofa to conduct surveys and look at the squash harvest which is currently underway in Tonga.

Tonga's current squash markets are Korea and Japan.

New Millennium Co is one of Tonga's squash exporters and its manager, Lesieli Namoa, says she welcomes the government's move to explore new market opportunities.

Radio Tonga reports her saying she hopes the initiative will encourage growers back into the sector.
