The Solomon Islands parliament is today due to hold a vote of no confidence in the prime minister, Manasseh Sogavare.

Today's vote hinges on a court ruling on the legality of the motion, with a decision due at 9am local time.

The challenge follows days of instability triggered by the resignation nearly two weeks ago of his deputy, Douglas Ete, who was soon followed by more ministers.

However, Mr Manasseh Sogavare then struck a deal with the Independents to shore up the numbers.

Two days ago, he added seven new ministers to his line-up, making Manasseh Maelanga his deputy.
