Papua New Guinea football is set for a big year in 2016 with the news that Port Moresby will play host to the OFC Nations Cup next year.

PNG has already been confirmed as hosts for the 2016 Women's U20 World Cup.

The OFC Nations Cup, which acts as Stage 2 of the region's FIFA World Cup qualifiers, will take place from 28 May to the 11 June.

Games will be played at Sir John Guise Stadium and the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

The General Secretary of the PNG Football Association Dimrit Mileng says the tournament is more positive news for the local football fraternity.

"A lot of things are happening and everybody has been given their tasks to do and hoping everybody does what they're supposed to do and hopefully we can get all these games to play. For football next year is going to give us a boost to demonstrate all the work that we have been doing for the last 10 years"

The PNG senior women will also play a home and away series with New Zealand in March to secure a place at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
