The Cook Islands government has confirmed an investigation is underway into a high-profile leak to the media.
Newspaper publisher George Pitt published a confidential legal opinion given to the government by Dr Alex Frame, despite a court injunction preventing him from doing so.
The Crown Law office made a complaint to the police and requested they investigate the alleged breach of the Court Order.
The matter is now before the Courts.
The legal opinion was sought by the Financial Intelligence Unit in relation to an investigation the agency is conducting into government spending.
A government media release says all legal options are being explored to ensure the integrity of confidential government information is maintained and the Financial Intelligence Unit investigation isn't compromised in any way.
