The Papua New Guinea's cricketers face a tough ask to secure outright victory against Afghanistan in the Intercontinental Cup after the hosts dominated a second straight day with the bat.

Resuming on 284 for 3 in Sharjah, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Asghar Stanikzai completed centuries as Afghanistan amassed 540 all out in its second innings.

Set 390 to win, the Barramundi's were 110 for 4 at stumps on day three.

Assad Vala is on 32 not out and first innings centurion Mahura Dai is unbeaten on 27.

PNG have already secured six first innings points for the match, with another 14 on offer for an outright win.
