Fishing company in America Samoa says hardship will impact all

Two fishing companies operating in American Samoa say hardship being faced by fishing operators will also impact the territory's economy.

The owner and partner of Ocean Global and Sea Global, Doug Hines, says recent actions taken by the United States government are having a devastating impact on the fishing industry.

Mr Hines says it's going to be a challenge for everyone if fishing operators don't have the resources to pay islands for access.

"I dunno how it's going to be addressed, but that's going to be the domino effect that will start to occur, you know, as we go into 2016. And I've been doing this for a long time and it's painful to watch".

Mr Hines is calling for the United States to intiate a federal study into the economic impact of new fishing rules.
