The Manu Samoa sevens side are focussed on recovering from a horror year last season when they finished 10th in the world series.

The latest edition of the series kicks off this weekend in Dubai and the Samoan team have been preparing with a different vision, led by new coach Damian McGrath and his assistant Brian Lima.

Samoa Rugby Chief Executive Faleomavaega Vincent Fepuleai says the duo complement each other well, and even though the team recently lost to Tonga in the Oceania Sevens semi-finals, they are on track for further improvement.

Faleomavaega says as well as qualifying for next year's Olympics, the team is looking to contend once again in the world series.

"What we definitely want from our team this year is to try and improve our rankings. Top four or five this year. That will be decided in terms of how they go about this year. It's going to be a long way back for us and I think we gave them 100 percent support from the union's point of view in terms of preparation. We are hoping that they can do the job for us."
