Sport: Crunch time for PNG women's cricketers

12:35 pm on 1 December 2015

The Papua New Guinea women's cricket team need to beat Bangladesh today to boost their chances of advancing to the knockout rounds of the World Twenty20 qualifier.

The Lewas opened the tournament with an eight wicket defeat against Scotland at the weekend before bouncing back to beat hosts Thailand by seven wickets.

Bangladesh sit atop Pool A, having won both of their pool matches, with PNG in second spot courtesy of a superior net run rate to Scotland.

The Scots are expected to beat Thailand in their final pool match, meaning the Lewas will likely need a win to secure their place in the semi finals.

The two finalists will qualify for next year's World Twenty20 in India.
