A bout of food poising has struck the Fiji sevens team ahead of this weekend's World Series leg in Cape Town.

The defending series champions won the season opener in Dubai on Sunday but head coach Ben Ryan expects it will be a challenge for his players to back up their performance in South Africa.

He says the players are very tired, which hasn't been helped by a run of diarrhoea through the team.

Ben Ryan says a few other teams are also suffering but he's hopeful his players will be right by Saturday.

Fiji have been drawn in the same pool as Scotland, Russia and Argentina this weekend and Ben Ryan is tipping South Africa as the favourites to win the Cup on home soil.
