Vanuatu co-operative revival should help local nut market

4:11 pm on 30 December 2015

A large shipment of dried coconuts has been unloaded in the Vanuatu capital Port Vila for sale to the local community.

The Vanuatu Co-operative Federation has just been revived and its director Ritley Joseph says it aims to help co-operatives bargain with pricing and help the domestic sale of their products.

He says more than 27,000 coconuts have been brought in from one of the largest co-operatives in the country, in Malekula.

"Those nuts are to be sold at a very competitive price and because we have the quantity we will be selling at a very competitive price. The aim here is to put food on the table for a good price for Ni-Vans and of course, if our international visitors also want to enjoy coconut in their meals they can."
