7:44 am on 12 January 2016

New Caledonia has lifted its cyclone warning for the country as Cyclone Ula weakens on its southward track.

Meteorological authorities in the territory have warned of three metre high swells for the islands of Mare and Isle des Pins.

Ula was downgraded to a category three storm yesterday afternoon after leaving minimal damage on Vanuatu's southern group.

Meanwhile strong wind warnings are in force for the northern Cook Islands due to a tropical disturbance in the area.
