A court in the Northern Marianas has found a former senior police officer guilty of corruption for his role in shielding the then Attorney General Edward Buckingham from being served with a penal summons in August 2012.
The former Department of Public Safety deputy commissioner Ambrosio Ogumoro was found guilty of conspiracy to commit theft of services and theft of services.
The Associate Judge David Wiseman says he will announce the sentencing date on Tuesday as well as his verdict on the nine remaining charges against Ogumoro.
Ogumoro is the only remaining defendant in the case which also involved the former governor Benigno Fitial.
Fitial pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office and conspiracy to commit theft of services while he was governor until 2013 and is serving a one year jail sentence.
The former Commonwealth Ports Authority police chief Jordan Kosam also pleaded guilty to misconduct in office while the charges against his co-defendant, former CPA police captain John Rebuenog, were dismissed.
Buckingham was convicted during a bench trial.
The charges against Fitial's former personal driver and bodyguard Jermaine Joseph Nekaifes were dismissed.
