For 40 years, the Barefoot College has helped introduce modern technologies to rural areas training up local women and young people.

Professor Roy and Fiji's Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar have been looking at suitable sites for the training centre in Fiji's Northern Division.

Ms Akbar said the Ministry would be working closely with the college to ensure the plan is realised by 2017.

In 2012, 10 women from Fiji were sent to the Barefoot College in India, for six months training in solar electrification.
