The Marshall Islands government has released subsidy funding to local copra producers in an attempt to clear an estimated $US300,000 backlog in payments.

The copra producers are mostly from the remote outer islands and have been waiting months for payment.

New resources and development minister, Alfred Alfred Jr, said cabinet wanted to advance third and fourth quarter subsidy funding for the Tobolar Copra Processing Authority, to help it pay its debts to the copra producers.
