The Pacific Islands Development Forum has had its charter registered by the United Nations in New York.

Ten countries signed the charter of the PIDF.

The PIDF secretary general, Francois Martel, says he is delighted at how quickly the young international organisation has grown, since it was formed in 2013.

He says in that very short space of time the PIDF has concluded a Host Country Agreement with Fiji, signed five partnership agreements with key regional agencies and international NGOs for technical support, formalised its charter and now the UN has registered its Charter.

Mr Martel says registration opens up the door for the PIDF to participate fully in all UN processes and systems.
