Sport: Fiji's Roy Krishna on the mend

12:02 pm on 19 February 2016

Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna's recovery from injury is gathering pace.

The 28 year old Fiji international injured his ankle last month away to the Central Coast Mariners, which was expected to rule him out of action for up to 12 weeks.

The Phoenix have eight games left in the A-League regular season and coach Ernie Merrick remains optimistic Krishna can play a part.

"He's started non weight-bearing training on the bike and cross-trainer, and a lot of core work and strength work off legs, but he's got to be careful what he does on legs just now so it's going to be slow. Four to five weeks still means he might get three or four games in and that's what we're hoping."

If his recovery progresses well, Roy Krishna could also feature on the Fiji Olympic team's tour of Brazil in April.
