Cyclone Yalo continues to move southeast across French Polynesia, but is weakening and is expected to fizzle out over the course of today.

Yalo, a category one with winds of 65 kilometres an hour close to its centre, was this morning about 85 kilometres west-northwest of Rūrutu, at the tip of French Polynesia's Austral archipelago.

It is moving east-southeast at 15 kilometres an hour.

Forecasters say the system is weakening and the cyclone is expected to be declassified by this evening.
