The Fiji Human Rights Commission has announced that its new director is Ashwin Raj.
In a statement, the Commission said Mr Raj joined the Commission with a wealth of experience as an academic, having a number of engagements with civil society, state and the international community in the field of human rights, governance and democracy.
The Commission said Mr Raj had already taken up office.
Mr Raj used to be the chair of the Media Industry Development Authority which the post-coup military regime set up in 2010.
FBC News said his appointment was pursuant to the Human Rights Commission Decree No. 11 of 2009.
