Taiwan is providing $US4 million to the Marshall Islands to further help cut power costs for residents and the government.
It has already got the country's outer islands relying almost exclusively on solar power in place of diesel for generating electricity, and provided street lighting in the urban areas.
A new senator in the Marshall's parliament, David Paul, said the aim was to reduce urban residents' power costs, while also cutting the utility company's diesel costs.
The Taiwan scheme is for a revolving loan fund for purchasing home solar units for residents of Majuro and Ebeye.
Taiwan has already provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in aid for home and community facility solar equipment in the remote islands as well as the street lighting project.
