New voting system proposed in PNG

The Integrity of Political Parties and Candidate Commission in Papua New Guinea wants people to vote for parties rather than individuals.

It is proposing a new voting system in a bid to strengthen political parties.

The registrar of Political Parties Dr Alphonse Gelu says this would also help eliminate independent candidates.

The Post Courier reports Dr Gelu told students at the Kerema Secondary School that under the proposal all that would be on the ballot paper would be the parties' logos and colours.
