The Tongan government wants closer supervision of Tongans working on orchards in Australia after several complaints against their employers.

It's also planning to examine the performance of contractors who take on Tongans in the Australian fruit picking industry.

According to Tonga Broadcasting the Ministry of Internal Affairs has received several complaints from Tongan fruit pickers dissatisfied with their contractors or employers.

The Ministry's CEO 'Ana Bing Fonua says it is hard to monitor and supervise the workers in such a big country and it plans to reduce to two the number of states they are sent to work in.
